Christina Applegate has returned home after being hospitalized for a severe kidney infection that affected both of her kidneys. The 53-year-old actress, who is also managing multiple sclerosis, revealed the news during a recent episode of her podcast, which she recorded from a hospital bed in Los Angeles.
She explained that she began feeling unwell while traveling in Europe and went directly to the hospital upon returning to Los Angeles. Doctors performed emergency tests and discovered the infection, prompting immediate treatment with intravenous antibiotics.
Applegate described the pain as intense and said she feared it might be appendicitis. She recounted breaking down in tears during her hospital stay and praised the care she received from medical staff. She also noted that she has been hospitalized over 30 times since her MS diagnosis in 2021.
She is now recovering at home but said that doctors are still trying to determine the cause of additional stomach issues. Despite the scare, she maintained her signature humor and openness throughout the podcast episode.
