Severance Leads Emmy Noms With Record 27

LOS ANGELES – The Television Academy unveiled the nominees for the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards on the morning of July 15, 2025, in a live announcement from the Wolf Theatre in Los Angeles by Harvey Guillén and Brenda Song, alongside Academy chair Cris Abrego.

Topping the list, Apple TV+’s sci-fi thriller Severance earned a remarkable 27 nominations, solidifying its status as television’s most-nominated show this year. HBO’s The Penguin, the dark origin story of Gotham’s infamous crime lord, followed closely with 24 nods.

On the comedic front, Apple TV+ again stole the spotlight. Its sharp satire The Studio secured 23 nominations—tying the record for most nominations ever received by a freshman comedy series—a milestone previously set by The Bear. Other strong contenders included HBO’s The White Lotus, also netting 23 nods, signaling continued industry admiration.

The limited series category showcased The Penguin’s dominance, while Netflix’s new thriller Adolescence emerged as a multiple-nomination surprise. Longstanding favorites like Squid Game’s third season and Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story were overlooked in key acting categories.

Acting nominations highlighted an eclectic mix of industry veterans and breakout performers. The Penguin delivered its first Emmy nod for Colin Farrell in the Lead Actor class, complemented by acclaim for Cristin Milioti. The Studio also earned its share of acting attention, with Seth Rogen, Ron Howard, Martin Scorsese, Zoë Kravitz, Anthony Mackie, and Dave Franco recognized in guest performance categories.

Music and variety specials gained recognition too, with Beyoncé and Kendrick Lamar scoring nominations for their recent performances—the former’s Beyoncé Bowl earning four nominations, while Lamar was nominated twice for his Super Bowl halftime show.

The 118 categories span programming genres, performances, writing, directing, and technical achievements, covering content aired between June 1 2024 and May 31 2025. Following the announcement, the industry buzzed with excitement: Seth Rogen described nominations for The Studio as “thrilling,” while Cristin Milioti shared that she learned of hers “sweaty in a pharmacy.”

Looking ahead, Nate Bargatze is set to host the ceremony, which will broadcast live on CBS and Paramount+ from the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles on September 14 at 8 p.m. ET (5 p.m. PT).

Two years later, I moved to Greensboro, North Carolina where I became co-host of a morng show called AM Carolina. The next year, I moved cross-country and became co-host and story producer at KTVN-TV in Reno, Nevada. I also became the medical reporter for the news department. Three years later, I moved to Louisville, Kentucky and became host and producer of a morning show called today in WAVE Country at WAVE-TV, Channel 3, the NBC affiliate. Following three years there, I moved to Los Angeles and became senior correspondent at the Turner Entertainment Reportn, an internationally-syndicated entertainment entertainment news service owned by CNN. I went back to school afterwards and got an MFA in Creative Nonfiction at Goucher College in Towson, Maryland, a suburb of Baltimore. Oh, yes. I won a hundred thousand dollars on the 100 Thousand Dollar Pyramid, then hosted by Dick Clark.
