San Francisco critics name The Florida Project Year’s best film

San Francisco film critics have weighed in on what they consider the cream of the crop in this year’s films, and they have named director Sean Baker‘s drama, The Florida Project as the year’s best picture. Actor Willem Dafoe, from the film, earned best supporting actor honors. The film — about a young girl and her friends living near Florida’s Disney World — was written by Baker along with Chris Burgoch. Stars include Dafoe, Broolyn Prince, Bria Venaite, and Velaria Cotto, to name only a few.

Guillermo del Toro took best director honors for his film, The Shape of Water. Andy Serkis from War for the Planet of the Apes was named best actor. Margot Robbie won best actress for I, Tonya. Laurie Metcalf won best supporting actress for Lady Bird.
