Rap, R&B and Jay-Z lead the way as 2018 Grammy nominations roll out

He may be 47, but Jay-Z is in no danger of being supplanted by younger artists any time soon. The rapper led the way at this year’s Grammy nominations and right there with him was Kendrick Lamar. Both are nominated for album and record of the year. Overall, Rap and R&B overwhelmed all other genres in the two most significant categories. In all, Jay-Z picked up 8 nominations.

Joining Kendrick and Jay-Z for album of the year are Bruno Mars, Childish Gambino and Lorde. In the record of the year, the four also picked up nods along with Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s Despicato featuring Justin Bieber. Missing from both categories this year were Rock and Country.

The 60th Grammy Awards will take place on January 28 at Madison Square Garden in New York and will be broadcast by CBS at 7:30PM Eastern/4:30PM Pacific.
