Star Wars is very much with us, and it’s coming to a soon-to-be streaming service near you. Disney has announced that it will turn the much-beloved film franchise into a live-action series to debut on the as-yet-to-be-named Disney streaming service when it launches in 2019. In addition, the service will include new series based on the 2001 Disney animation feature Monsters, Inc. as well as the Disney Channel series High School Musical.
The studio also announced a continuation of the Star Wars theatrical franchise in an upcoming trilogy, the first of which to be helmed once again by the writer/director Rian Johnson. The trilogy is in addition to the already announced upcoming releases, Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018) and Star Wars: Episode IX (2019).
