Is there anyone who doesn’t co-star in Thor: Ragnarok? Check out this l:ine-up supporting Chris Hemsworth, who returns in the starring role of the Thor franchise: Tom Hiddleston, Cate Blanchett, Idris Elba, Jeff Goldblum, Tessa Thompson, Karl Urban, MarK Ruffalo, Anthony Hopkins and Benedict Cumberbatch. The title refers to an important event prophesied in Norse Mythology. Think of Ragnarok as a sort of happening akin to the flood that led to Noah’s Ark — with a sprinkle of Armageddon thrown in. Hopkins, back as Odin, is on his dying legs, and his demise will allow his long-imprisoned daughter, Hela — played by Cate Blanchett — to escape her confinement. Hela was just fine leading Asgard’s armies until she got too big for her britches and her ambitions led to her downfall. But now that she’s out again, she unleashes all manner of whoop ass on Thor and the whole lot. Suffice it to say that the plot is complicated — many threads to keep up with here — but critics have been generous with their praise, some even going so far as to opine that this one is the best in the franchise to date. See the film if you want to know how it turns out. We won’t give any spoilers here.
The franchise has a new director this time out in Taika Waititi. The screenplay is from Eric Pearson and the team of Craig Kyle and Christopher Yost.
Rottentomatoes gives this one a very good score of 93. Audiences who’ve seen it weigh in at 89
