Bannon out at Breitbart News in wake of comments in Fire and Fury

It was bound to happen. Political firebrand Steve Bannon is exiting the right-wing website, Breitbart News. Apparently his position became untenable following his candid remarks to the author of the newly-released book, Fire and Fury.

According to the book’s author, Michael Wolff, Bannon gave plenty of on-the-record access for material Wolff included in his scathing behind-the-scenes look into the Trump White House. It’s a stunning fall from grace for the man widely attributed with bringing about Trump’s unlikely victory following his often up-and-down campaign for the presidency.

Not long ago, Bannon was front page stuff on the cover of Time magazine as well as the main subject of Joshua Green’s recently-published book, Devil’s Bargain, an exploration into the machinations of the Trump campaign, Bannon’s contributions to it, as well as a comprehensive look at Bannon’s own background.

In Wolff’s book, Bannon is reported to have said that Donald Trump, Jr., engaged in an act of “treaon” and that Trump’s daughter, Ivanka, was “dumb as a brick.” Aside from provoking Trump’s ire, the language alienated the Mercer family, huge contributors both to Trump’s campaign as well as significant backers of Bannon and Breitbart where he most recently served as chairman. Bannon has also been dropped from Sirius XM radio’s line up.

Trump pulled no punches in his reaction to Bannon’s participation in Fire and Fury saying that he had lost his job and that he had “lost his mind.”
